  3.                       CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

  7. Attention OS/2 User Group & Team OS/2 representatives -
  8.  
  9. "Connect the World with Merlin" is a grassroots project to promote
  10. "Merlin," the next version of OS/2.  This project is being organized
  11. and conducted by OS/2 users with the blessings and support of IBM.
  12.  
  13. SCOPE
  14.  
  15. The purpose of the "Connect the World with Merlin" project is
  16. for OS/2 user groups and members of Team OS/2 to provide assistance 
  17. to IBM in the launch of "Merlin."  Specifically, volunteers on a 
  18. designated day will conduct demonstrations of the new product at
  19. computer stores throughout the world.  Further, the demos would all 
  20. be connected through the Internet where volunteers would help 
  21. construct a world map showing the locations where OS/2 is used.  The 
  22. demos would also highlight the power of OS/2, including multimedia, 
  23. multitasking, multithreading, true 32-bit processing, native OS/2
  24. applications, Internet connectivity, speech navigation, etc.  
  25.  
  26. The benefits of this project would be considerable:
  27.  
  28. *  It would invigorate computer stores who have historically 
  29.    taken a ho-hum approach to selling OS/2.
  30.  
  31. *  It would dispel the belief that OS/2 isn't widely used.
  32.  
  33. *  It would promote sales by showcasing the features of the 
  34.    product.
  35.  
  36. *  The press would find it an interesting media event in that 
  37.    one computer product was able to easily link the world together.
  38.  
  39. *  It would galvanize OS/2 customers (e.g., user groups and
  40.    Team OS/2) through a common promotional program.
  41.  
  42. *  It would be incredibly simple to do.
  43.  
  44. The project will add credibility to OS/2 in that it is being 
  45. conducted by users of the product as opposed to the vendor.
  46.  
  47. Details of the project are currently being worked out.  A script 
  48. is being prepared and will include such things as:
  49.  
  50. *  Selecting demonstration sites.
  51. *  Personnel requirements.
  52. *  Hardware/software requirements.
  53. *  Setting up for the demonstration.
  54. *  Conducting the demonstration.
  55.  
  56. In all likelihood, the event will be conducted in October.  The
  57. exact date will be announced soon.
  58.  
  59. It is our intent to put on a first-class, professional demonstration
  60. of the operating system we have all come to love.
  61.  
  62. VOLUNTEERS
  63.  
  64. As of this writing, we have well over 200 volunteers for the project
  65. representing:
  66.  
  67. Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Republic,
  68. France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Netherlands,
  69. New Zealand, Norway, Russia, Singapore, Slovania, South Africa,
  70. Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom (locations 
  71. in Scotland and England), and the United States.

  73. This an excellent start but now we want to keep the ball rolling and 
  74. make a call for additional OS/2 users to participate in the project.
  75.  
  76. We are particularly interested in seeking volunteers in the following 
  77. countries:  Brazil, China, Denmark, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, 
  78. and Taiwan.

  166. also the Editor of the OS/2 CONNECT freeware newsletter.  In addition, he is 
  167. the founder of the Tampa Bay OS/2 Users' Group (TBOUG) and a member of Team 
  168. OS/2.  MBA is an OS/2 Independent Software Vendor and participates in IBM's
  169. Developer Assistance Program (DAP) and Solution Developer program for OS/2
